It is with great sadness that i have been 
informed about the passing away of one of our friends 
and fellow Karateka.

Mr Peter McGarrity saddly passed away this week suddenly.
May we all say a prayer for the family & friends that 
are left without Peter at this or any time.

Most of us will be left with a hole that cant be filled ,
Let us leave the memories to grow and remember Peter with 
the cheery grin he always had. 
 
Let his club  carry on and flourish in his memory.

A recent competition i officiated at could 
have been a prospective problem for officialls 
had I not intervened. 
On the entry forms it was advertised as joint third 
all events, 
On the day it appeared that a mix up in  trophy quantities 
was likely to create a situation where third place
only had one trophy so a fight off became the 
solution suggested by organizers.

As an official i advised that in the event a student is 
hurt and takes legal advise we may be putting ourselves 
in a position of being vulnerable as we are not running
the event as advertised.
Reducing times for bouts and cancelling an event is one 
thing but asking for third place fight offs when 
advertising joint third may leave us open for litigation.

ANY THOUGHTS ON THE ABOVE ???

Coaches and club instructors alike must ensure that
they know the rules not only of competition but
of the ways a competition is run, this would ensure 
a smoother event for all concerned.
Gis too long/short, obis the wrong colour, mitts the 
wrong type or colour, but worst of all students 
leaving an area that they are due to compete at.

It is not our job or our fault when students are 
excluded because of shortfalls or lack of attendance.

Neither is it our fault or intention to be still 
working at silly hours of the night.

It is hoped that coaches/instructors and students alike
take note of the few little things that cause events
to be taking twice the expected time.
Parents must also remember that they are spectators and 
should not be in the competition arena. 

Cutting down on the amount of prospective injuries
in competition has to be a main priority.

When working in childrens catagories especially we must all be 
aware that if a technique hits the face it has contacted
and should be penalised accordingly.
It is too easy to Toramasen the technique.
The same can be said for litgation, it is also very easy to
be accused.  

Our aim is to promote the good practice of a friendly
day out, and our objective is to send competitors home
in the same condition they came, some with trophies 
and some without.

FOR BLUE,
THE APPLICATION OF MUBOBI, THE PENALTY HAS 
CHANGED DRAMATICALLY,
THE PENALTY SCALE FOR
HANSOKU IE ;PLUS 8 AND THE HIGHEST SCORE.?

IT WOULD BE ADVISABLE FOR ALL refs to tell  COACHES TO ALSO 
DOWNLOAD THE RULES .It is not our job to teach the rules, only 
implement them.
